When it comes to chocolate, we are always on the lookout for new brands and flavours, finding something a little different to sample and share. And we found just that at last month’s chocolate festival in Brighton.
London-based Contour Chocolate creates handcrafted, smooth, chocolate discs, using heirloom Nicaraguan cocoa beans. The hand-tempered discs are deliciously thin and flavoured with carefully selected natural ingredients. Each pull-draw box contains 20 discs.
The aesthetics of the box and the way the discs are packed are absolutely delightful. As the tasting experience starts with how products look, this makes Contour Chocolate a winner from the off. These boxes would not look out of place on some luxury flights, in hotel rooms, and simply to bring out at the end of a meal in place of petit fours.
We sampled a few of the flavour selections on offer but opted to buy a box of Salted Hazelnut Dark discs. As we are gluten and lactose-free, the ingredients list makes a lot of our choices for us. With cocoa beans, hazelnuts (30%), cane sugar, cocoa butter, and a touch of salt, the discs were actually really creamy for dark chocolate. The nearest we could match the experience to was a hazelnut praline. They are just the right size to pop in your mouth whole, or nibble around the edges if you have more self-control. I opted to pop one at a time and let the chocolate work its magic!
